Whatever one’s view of past American wars and conflicts and the current wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, all Americans support our military personnel serving there and admire their courage and their sacrifices to keep our nation free and safe from terrorism.

Approximately one in six returning Iraqi War soldiers suffers from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), severe depression or anxiety, often accompanied by alcohol or other drug abuse and addiction. Of these soldiers, fewer than 40 percent seek any form of mental health care, and fewer than 10 percent of those with alcohol problems are even referred for treatment. Without such care, they cannot function in our society, hold down jobs or raise families. Many join the homeless population; some are even driven to commit suicide.

This important and timely CASACONFERENCESM will offer solutions to make sure our brave men and women receive all the support they need to re-establish their lives when they return home.

What's New

CASA has added a Juvenile Justice section to our Web site. In 2004 CASA released its landmark report, Criminal Neglect: Substance Abuse, Juvenile Justice and the Children Left Behind which called for a top to bottom overhaul of state juvenile justice systems. CASA has taken the first steps toward converting the reports findings into large-scale institutional change with the creation of a Model Bill of Rights for Children in Juvenile Justice Systems.

CALLING ALL PARENTS…CASA WANTS TO HEAR FROM YOU!

We are writing a new book, Parent Power – a guide to raising your children drug free. We want it to be the best, most readable, practical, and savvy guide to help parents deal with real world situations they face in raising teenage sons and daughters free of drug and alcohol abuse.

We need your help. To be sure we get it right and address the questions you want answered, we need to hear from parents all across America. We need to learn about your experience in talking – and listening – to your children about alcohol, marijuana, pills, tobacco and other drugs. Help us make this book the best guide ever put together to help parents!
